New Teachings

I work six periods out of six periods a day. No prep period. And last week I found out that one period, I needed to change what I teach. I teach two elective wheel classes and trimesters 1 and 2 they were both Photography. Made things really easy. Whatever I did in period 5.. I did in period 6. I'm not a professional photographer, but it's a fun hobby and I'm actually pretty good at it. Not to toot my own horn.
Anyways, I found out I needed a new plan for one of my periods and I had about three days to decide and plan, at least enough to get me through this first week. Soooo after many pros and cons lists and bouncing ideas off of some teachaaa friends I came to a conclusion.... wait for it... you ready? HEALTH AND FITNESS.
Crazy. The idea came to me. I ran with it. And instead of planning one week, I already have 4-5 weeks of units planned. I started Monday & I started with basic nutrition facts. MyPlate and the proper way for everyone, including pre-teens to fuel their bodies. Honestly, I thought they were going to hate it. I thought they'd find no interest in it and be bored out of their mind. But NO! They love it! We have such amazing conversations in my class already. My students are learning something truly valuable that I hope they take with them throughout their years. The plan is to get to a point where they are learning some meditation and yoga. Maybe some other fitness related activities... but I'm still trying to brainstorm what can be done in my classroom... any thoughts? SHARE! Just SO SO excited!
It's so outrageous to me. 3 months ago I could have never pictured myself so obsessed with health and fitness. Now, I'm actually teaching it to my students? This journey has blessed me in ways that I could've never pictured when I first began!
